چکیده

A suite of mathematical models for solid-state phase transformations in solid-state alloys is presented. The work deals in particular with dissolution and growth of particles in solid-state alloys. Several models are presented and numerical solution procedures are summarized briefly. Further, some analytic solutions are considered shortly, which are useful to validate the numerical solutions. One model, which incorporates surface energy effects is presented in more detail. From this model it is observed that the surface energy prevents the occurrence of fingering during growth.

Phase-field modelling of solute trapping during rapid solidification of a Si–As alloy

The effect of nonequilibrium solute trapping by a growing solid under rapid solidification conditions is studied using a phase-field model. Considering a continuous steady-state concentration profile across the diffuse solid-liquid interface, a new definition of the nonequilibrium partition coefficient in the phase-field context is introduced. This definition leads, in particular for high growt...

CORRIGENDUM: Nature of hardness evolution in nanocrystalline NiTi shape memory alloys during solid-state phase transition

Due to a distinct nature of thermomechanical smart materials' reaction to applied loads, a revolutionary approach is needed to measure the hardness and to understand its size effect for pseudoelastic NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) during the solid-state phase transition. Spherical hardness is increased with depths during the phase transition in NiTi SMAs. This behaviour is contrary to the decr...

A multiscale perspective on the kinetics of solid state transformations with

We give an excerpt of recent developments in the experimentally benchmarked modeling of bainite formation in the press hardening process. As the press hardening process poses a heavily multi-parameter dependent modeling challenge, we focus on three main branches which complement each other. We emphasise the combination of basic sharp interface and phase field models with pragmatically adapted m...

Effects of elastic strain energy and interfacial stress on the equilibrium morphology of misfit particles in heterogeneous solids

This paper presents an efficient sharp interface model to study the morphological transformations of misfit particles in phase separated alloys. Both the elastic anisotropy and interfacial energy are considered. The geometry of the material interface is implicitly described by the level set method so that the complex morphological transformation of microstructures can be accurately captured. A ...

Mathematical Models for Microbial Kinetics in Solid-State Fermentation: A Review

Context:In this review, we discuss empirical and stoichiometric models, which have been developed recently in SSF processes and the influence of environmental conditions on the variables of these models. Additionally, new studies on modeling of product formation are also mentioned. <span style="color: windowtext...
